Coming into last night's tilt, the Leafs had won three games in a row.
They won these games against the Boston Bruins, the Detroit Red Wings, and even the Montreal Canadiens. However, the 7-7 Senators gave them a whole lot of trouble.
From the opening faceoff, it was clear that the Senators were going to be the better team. Five minutes into the second period, it was already 3-0 and that is how the score stayed.
The Leafs offense wasn't able to generate anything. With Max Pacioretty and Auston Matthews out of the lineup, the struggles were palpable.
After the game, Tavares spoke on what went down, noting how the team should be very disappointed with what happened.
Things are not getting any easier for the Maple Leafs. After falling to 9-6-2, they must now face the Washington Capitals.
The Capitals and their superstar Alexander Ovechkin are on a heater to start the NHL season. They are 10-4 while Ovi already has 10 goals.
Ovechkin is on a mission to surpass the goals record set by Wayne Gretzky. Many thought it would never be broken, but Ovechkin is on a mission to prove that wrong.
The Leafs will need to be aware of this as Ovechkin will be motivated to pop a few in on them. Although, it remains to be seen whether or not he will bring his A-game.
The Leafs will be on a back-to-back, which adds a whole new degree of difficulty to it. Hopefully, John Tavares and company can bounce back and show fans what they are capable of.
