The Toronto Maple Leafs power play has been struggling mightily this season and today's practice saw a frustrating reversion back to the status quo.

For much of this season, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been going with five forwards on the Power Play.

Those forwards include Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, John Tavares, William Nylander, and Matthew Knies.

Despite all of this firepower, the power play has still been abysmal and the team is looking for answers.

Toronto Maple Leafs power play continues to struggle

Today, the Maple Leafs held a practice just one day prior to their game against the Dallas Stars which takes place in Toronto on Tuesday night.

Unfortunately, when it came time to practice the power play, the team decided to go with the status quo. As Luke Fox reports, the team is still insisting on going with five forwards.

Fox subsequently reported on the second power-play unit which consists of two defensemen and the third-line combination of Nick Robertson, Max Domi, and Bobby McMann.

The power play is under so much scrutiny right now that there are some people out there suggesting that Marc Savard needs to be fired from his post as assistant coach.

He has been in charge of the power play and so far this season, the team has just not been good enough.

A firing seems pretty drastic especially since we just hit the mid-season point.

Having said that, if the power play continues to struggle, the Toronto Maple Leafs may have no choice.
