Maple Leafs prospect on the verge of the opportunity of a lifetime

Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Miroslav Holinka has been awesome for the Edmonton Oil Kings and it has led to some massive opportunities for the young star.

Miroslav Holinka was taken by the Toronto Maple Leafs 151st overall in the fifth-round of the NHL Entry Draft this past summer.

Since then, Miroslav Holinka has been playing well in the WHL with the Edmonton Oil Kings, where he currently has 21 points in 23 games.

According to Steven Ellis of Daily Faceoff, Holinka is getting a massive opportunity with the Czech Republic as the World Juniors is set to begin on boxing day.

Essentially, Leafs fans can expect Holinka to be the first-line center for the country come tournament time.

''Look for Toronto Maple Leafs product Miroslav Holinka to become Czechia's No. 1 center at the World Juniors. Holinka is having a good year in the WHL, sitting at 21 points in 23 games with the Edmonton Oil Kings.''

Overall, this is a very cool opportunity and given his play this season, it is very well deserved.

As Ellis writes, Holinka is someone who plays well on both sides of the ice which will ingratiate him with the Leafs and their fans.

''Holinka isn't going to drive play - that's simply not his game. But like Fraser Minten, Holinka is a reliable two-way threat who does a lot in his own zone. Scouts like how he supports his defenders and that he's willing to block shots and get in the way of scoring chances.''

Only time will tell whether or not Holinka makes the most of this and is able to take the Czech Republic to new heights.

Hopefully, Holinka pans out and has a lengthy career with the Maple Leafs.
