NHL Department of Player Safety makes final decision on Matthew Knies
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies delivered a huge hit on Jonathan Kovacevic that some felt needed action from the NHL Department of Player Safety.
Matthew Knies has been a stud so far this season and he has been producing at a pretty high level for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
While he did not score last night against the New Jersey Devils, he was at least throwing around the body in a significant way.
However, there was one hit last night that had some fans questioning whether or not Knies would be subjected to any sort of supplemental discipline.
Of course, we are talking about the hit below on Jonathan Kovacevic, which ended up putting Matthew Knies in the penalty box for two minutes.
Mike Johnson of TSN felt as though this was a hit that could very well have landed Knies in the box for four minutes with a major penalty.

Today, some were anticipating some sort of decision from the NHL Department of Player Safety, which is known to be unkind to the Maple Leafs from time to time.
However, the DoPS made their decision by not saying anything at all.
This means that Matthew Knies is free to go and there is no supplemental discipline coming his way.
Overall, this is very good for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who seem to be getting the short end of the stick on these decisions, over and over again.
Meanwhile, the team won last night's game by a score of 2-1, which was certainly a nice turn of events given that they were dominated through two periods.
Now, the Maple Leafs have a record of 17-9-2 and remain close to the top of the Atlantic Division standings.
