Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies has been dealing with a head injury following a huge hit from Las Vegas Golden Knights defenseman, Zach Whitecloud.

Overall, the hit from Whitecloud has remained incredibly controversial as no penalty was assessed.

The hit took place last Wednesday, which means it has been a full week since the incident took place.

A lot of fans were pretty upset about it, especially since it has forced Knies to miss the last three games.

Tonight, the Maple Leafs are playing the Florida Panthers, and based on yesterday's reports surrounding Knies, it was clear that he would not play today.

However, during Wednesday's morning skate, we did see something positive out of Knies.

The star was no longer wearing a red non-contact jersey. This means he is getting closer to a return.

Matthew Knies is hard at work

Based on the circumstances, it seems fairly likely that we will see Knies back on the ice as of Saturday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

It is also believed that Auston Matthews will be back in the Maple Leafs lineup by then.

This will certainly be nice for the Leafs and their fans, who have been eager to watch this team get back to full strength after a difficult stretch.

During said difficult stretch, the Leafs were still able to win seven out of eight games.

This just goes to show that the Leafs are on a completely different level this season, which is fantastic to see.

Only time will tell whether or not the Leafs can escape Florida with a couple of wins.
