Toronto Maple Leafs forward Max Domi has not been playing to his full potential this season and with the trade deadline around the corner, anything can happen.

During the first 22 games of the NHL season, Max Domi did not register a single goal for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Eventually, the forward went out with an injury and when he returned, he scored three goals in four games, which led to fans thinking he was officially back.

Unfortunately, since that time, Domi has gone on a 14-game goalless streak and it is becoming clear that he is not living up to his contract.

Max Domi has not been good for the Toronto Maple Leafs this season

His 14 assists are okay but it is nowhere near enough production to really justify his place on the team right now.

Typically, Domi plays Center which is not his natural position. With Fraser Minten on the roster, he is playing at left-wing, however, his strength is right-wing. The issue: the team has too many right-wingers.

This means that Domi doesn't have as many opportunities to play in a position that actually suits his game.

With the trade deadline coming, NHL insider Chris Johnston is suggesting that all of these factors point to Domi being trade bait next month.

The Maple Leafs have made it crystal clear that they would like a third-line Center like Yanni Gourde or perhaps even Brock Nelson.

With that in mind, there might not be a place for Domi any longer which is unfortunate given his deep familial ties to the team.

If one thing is for certain it is that Brad Treliving has some extremely difficult decisions to make going forward.
