Ottawa Senators CEO Cyril Leeder was under fire on Monday after the team posted a photo of their mascot wearing a jersey with the Sens and Quebec Nordiques logo.

The Senators are planning on playing more games in Quebec City and to promote this, they showed off a split jersey with the Senators logo and the Nordiques logo merged together.

For many, this was an egregious faux pas, especially considering how relocation fears have burdened the Sens for years.

Ottawa Senators give their fans a scare

The team's fans were sent into a tailspin over this and immediately called out Senators CEO Cyril Leeder for the error in judgment.

In an astounding display of accountability, Leeder took to Twitter to apologize to the fans and note that the team is committed to staying in Ottawa forever.

"Sens Fans. For clarity
1. The team is not moving. Period. (other than hopefully downtown)
2. Putting our beloved Sparty in a Sens/Nords jersey was wrong. Today was a good reminder that our logo is sacred. As CEO, I own this one

Now, hopefully we can all focus on WASH"

The team is likely to relocate in the coming years, albeit to a downtown arena in Ottawa that is supposedly going to be a state-of-the-art facility.

Having said that, it should not come as a surprise that fans would be sensitive about the team's branding.

The Quebec Nordiques desperately want their team back and the fact that the Sens want to play regular-season games in Quebec City is concerning, to say the least.

Fans of the Senators are right to be upset, although it is good to see the team taking the feedback and adjusting its messaging.

Hopefully, the team gets their arena and relocation becomes a dead narrative.
