Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner was not happy tonight as his team lost to the New York Islanders in one of the squad's worst losses of the entire NHL season.

With Auston Matthews out of the lineup tonight, Mitch Marner was expected to raise the level of his play so that the Maple Leafs could get themselves a win against the lowly Islanders.

Mitch Marner and the Maple Leafs lay an egg

Unfortunately, neither of those two things happened tonight as the team lost 6-3 to an Islander team that was notorious for lacking offense.

The team went down early by a score of 2-0 and they were just never able to get the mojo back at any point.

It was just a bad loss all around for the team, and it is easy to see why players like Mitch Marner would be upset with the poor effort.

In fact, in the clip below, you can see that he showcased frustration on the Maple Leafs bench, even flipping the tablet and tossing it away.

Marner did get one assist in the game, while his teammate William Nylander was able to score two goals.

The other goal-scorer for the Maple Leafs was Bobby McMann, who has been on a nice roll as of late.

As for the team, this is a loss that they can probably just chalk up to being a wash and can easily forget about by tomorrow.

These kinds of losses are going to happen throughout the season, and as a team, you just have to learn to move and understand that this is going to happen sometimes.

Hopefully, the Leafs can learn and bounce back from this on Monday.

The Leafs record now sits at 21-11-2.
