Nick Kypreos rips Craig Berube to shreds for coddling William Nylander
NHL analyst Nick Kypreos had quite a bit to say this week about Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube and the way he has handled William Nylander.
During the Maple Leafs' loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Monday, there was one shift in which William Nylander played for five minutes straight, and now, some hockey analysts are up in arms about it.
William Nylander and Craig Berube are under fire by Nick Kypreos
Despite leading the Maple Leafs in goals this season with 23, Nick Kypreos believes Nylander should be held to a higher standard.
During an episode of his Sportsnet show, Kyper was very adamant that Berube is in the midst of coddling his winger.
Of course, Nylander had asked for more ice time earlier in the season, but as the analyst explained, this is not how you do that.
It is a bit too early to say whether or not Nylander is taking advantage of his coach and the team as a whole.
Of course, Kypreos is right that the typical shift should only last between 40 and 60 seconds.
When it comes to the five-minute shift from William Nylander, it mostly had to do with the fact that the team was on a four-minute powerplay.
However, this is still a habit that needs to be nipped in the bud before it inevitably gets out of hand.
Hopefully, both Nylander and Berube take this criticism into consideration because Kypreos has certainly made a valiant point that should be respected.
