Toronto Maple Leafs forward Connor Dewar took a cross-check to the face from Detroit Red Wings winger Jonathan Berggren and it has led to a reaction from the NHL.
Last night, the Maple Leafs lost to the Red Wings by a score of 4-2, however, they did score a win in the form of supplemental discipline after Jonatan Berggren hit Connor Dewar in the face with a cross-check.
Jonatan Berggren fined for hit on Connor Dewar
When it comes to the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Department of Player Safety, they are typically on the wrong side of calls.
However, today, the league actually took action against the Red Wings in this instance, as they handed Berggren a fine for his actions.
Connor Dewar's aggressor is being given a fine of over $2,000 for his actions, although that is a drop in the bucket given his salary.
While this fine might be a nice consolation prize for the Toronto Maple Leafs and their fans, it does not take away the sting of losing to the Red Wings.
It was a game in which the team only managed 24 shots on goal, all while missing a total of 19 passed the net.
Furthermore, it was not the best defensive effort, as Morgan Rielly has been a shell of himself so far this season.
Some fans are wondering what is wrong with this Leafs team, as the offense has seemed to be fairly stagnant at times.
For now, the team is still trying to figure out the system that Craig Berube has put in place, and that is going to require a bit of patience.
While that might be difficult for some Leafs fans to understand, they need to realize this is a process and it won't be figured out in just a quarter of a season.
