Ryan Reaves was brought to the Toronto Maple Leafs as a way to inject some much-needed grit and fighting spirit into the team.
However, he never really lived up to that, especially this season where he was constantly scratched. Not to mention, he only had one fight to show for his troubles.
His two assists and zero goals also didn't help matters very much, with fans essentially finding him to be a true net negative for the roster.
Yesterday, the Toronto Maple Leafs prepared for the trade deadline by placing Reaves on waivers.
Well, today, Ryan Reaves cleared waivers which means he will now be going down to the AHL, or the Leafs can just cut him loose altogether.
As reported by Luke Fox of Sportsnet, the Toronto Maple Leafs will be able to save a total of $1.15 million as a result of all of this.
Ultimately, that helps the Maple Leafs tremendously because the team just traded for former Philadelphia Flyers center Scott Laughton.
Laughton will automatically become the team's third-line center and is expected to be a nice driver of both offense and grit in time for the NHL playoffs.
While some may be a bit skeptical about how much this trade will actually change for the Maple Leafs, there is no denying that they could have used some firepower.
The fans wanted to see general manager Brad Treliving make a move, and that is exactly what he did, for better or for worse.
Now, one must wonder what is next for Ryan Reaves and whether or not this is where his hockey career officially ends.
