Toronto Maple Leafs enforcer Ryan Reaves was suspended for five games following a huge hit on Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse.

The hit has been debated over the past few days, with many giving their opinions on whether or not the hit was really that bad.

While speaking to Mark Masters, Leafs head coach Craig Berube had a pretty good take on it all.

He said that Reaves is not a dirty player but he understands the NHL wanting to eliminate hits like this from the game.

Ryan Reaves gets some comments from Craig Berube

"It's a lot, but at the same time I get it too. They've come down hard on hits to the head. It's not like Reavo tried to hit him in the head. It's just a tough play. Tough play."

"... his type of game, sometimes things happen. It's not like he's a dirty player. He's not a dirty player. He's a clean player, in my opinion, for his role, & there was no intention of him doing that, it just happened."

In a piece from reporter Luke Fox, many of Reaves' teammates came out in support of him.

Those teammates included Bobby McMann, Mitch Marner, and Matthew Knies.

Reavo's teammates speak out

"It's an unfortunate situation. Getting to know Reavo, it's definitely not his intention to hurt anybody," Matthew Knies said.

" Guys are playing hard. I don't think he was trying to finish high like that. I know he wasn't. He's just playing hard, trying to get through guys, trying to win a hockey game. Sometimes, you clip a guy the wrong way," Bobby McMann explained.

"You never like to see that. You really don't," Mitch Marner concluded

Hopefully, Reaves is able to learn from this and subsequently move on. He still has five games to serve, but they will go by quickly.
