Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Simon Benoit has had some bad games this season and it led to him being scratched against the Montreal Canadiens.

Simon Benoit
is from Laval, Quebec which would have made the game against the Habs a homecoming of sorts.

Unfortunately, he didn't get the opportunity he wanted and it has led to some interesting comments about his recent string of healthy scratches.

Simon Benoit is not happy with himself amid Toronto Maple Leafs struggles

When asked about how he felt about being scratched by head coach Craig Berube, Benoit was very honest.

However, it is important to note that he had no ill will toward the coaching staff. Instead, all of his anger was directed at himself as he just hasn't been good enough.

"It wasn't personal, it's part of the game. I'm more angry at myself. Obviously, not being in the lineup pisses me off, but I have to be better. It's on me. It's all about the team."

Thankfully, Benoit was able to get himself back into the lineup on Monday as the Maple Leafs took on the Tampa Bay Lightning.

In fact, the Leafs won the game and Benoit was pretty solid as he was a +1 with 14 minutes of ice time.

So far this season, Benoit has only managed a total of four points which certainly leaves a lot to be desired.

Having said that, he is someone who works hard and clearly has a lot of pride in his game given everything that has gone on as of late.

Hopefully, Benoit can continue to play well and give this Maple Leafs squad the blueline depth they have desperately needed for years.
