The Toronto Maple Leafs have made a huge goaltending change as Matt Murray has been called up to replace Dennis Hildeby as the backup going forward.

Matt Murray has been playing good hockey for the Toronto Marlies as of late, and after a shutout on Wednesday night, he is being rewarded by the Maple Leafs.

With Anthony Stolarz injured, the Maple Leafs had been going with a goaltending tandem of Joseph Woll and Dennis Hildeby.

While Woll is more than capable of carrying the load, Hildeby has some issues as he is not very experienced.

Stolarz will be out for over a month, which means the Leafs need absolute stability, even form their backup.

Consequently, this has led to talks and rumors that Matt Murray would be called up by the Leafs and that Hildeby would be sent down.

Moments ago, the team confirmed that Murray will be in the Leafs lineup over the next two games as they take on the Buffalo Sabres and the New York Islanders.

It remains to be seen which of these two games Murray will get to play, but it is pretty well guaranteed that he will get a chance.

The Sabres and the Islanders are two teams that are struggling this season.

When it comes to tonight's opponent in Buffalo, they are on an 11-game losing streak that includes a 6-1 loss to the Montreal Canadiens.

In fact, dating back to Sunday's game against Toronto, the Sabres have given up back-to-back hat tricks from John Tavares and Patrik Laine.

If one thing is for certain, it is that the Leafs are expected to win both of these games this weekend.
