Two Toronto Maple Leafs prospects earn World Juniors honors
Easton Cowan and Miroslav Holinka are the only Toronto Maple Leafs prospects who will compete in the 2025 World Junior Championship in Ottawa this December.
As seen on Yahoo Sports, both players were expected to make their respective teams and the final rosters confirmed their selections.
Easton Cowan will represent Team Canada for the second consecutive year.
He was drafted 28th overall in 2023 and the London Knights forward recently set an unofficial OHL record by recording a point in 56 straight games which is surpassing Doug Gilmour's mark.
However, the streak wasn't officially recognized as it spanned two seasons and Easton Cowan sustained an injury on December 6 but has been seen practicing individually since December 11.
In last year's tournament, he scored just 1 goal and 1 assist, but with his excellent junior production, he's expected to play a bigger role this year.
Miroslav Holinka will play for Czechia and is a 6-foot-2 center who was drafted 151st overall in 2024 and has impressed in his first WHL season with the Edmonton Oil Kings, posting 10 goals and 11 assists in 23 games.
With Czechia undergoing roster turnover since their 2024 bronze medal finish, Miroslav Holinka is expected to be a one of the principal contributor of the team.
The 2025 World Juniors will run from December 26, 2024, to January 5, 2025.
Group A features Canada, USA, Finland, Latvia, and Germany, while Group B includes Sweden, Czechia, Slovakia, Switzerland, and Kazakhstan.
