Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse was hit extremely hard by Toronto Maple Leafs enforcer Ryan Reaves last weekend.

Overall, this got Ryan Reaves into a lot of trouble as he was hit with a pretty hefty five-game suspension.

However, there has been a lot of debate surrounding whether or not this suspension was truly deserved or not.

Some people believe that the NHL was simply being too harsh. Meanwhile, some feel as though Reaves could have gotten a few more games for his troubles.

Interestingly, all of Reaves' teammates have come out to defend him. They are adamant that he is not a dirty player.

Now, Nurse himself is speaking out on the hit and how he feels about all of it.

As you will see down below, Nurse pulled no punches while speaking to the media. He noted that because of his size, it should have been easy for Reaves to hit him cleanly.

Darnell Nurse rips into Ryan Reaves

"There's lots of body on a 6'4" hockey player to hit and not one piece was touched other than my head."

Nurse certainly makes an interesting point, although we're sure there are some Leafs fans out there who are going to disagree.

Having said that, Nurse is supposed to get back into the Oilers lineup soon, which is good to see.

You never want to see players get injured, regardless of what the circumstances may be.

Hopefully, Reaves has learned his lesson, and this never ends up happening again. With all of the team's injuries, the Leafs can't afford any more suspensions.
