Toronto Maple Leafs forward Jacob Quillan had his NHL debut over the weekend but it didn't go according to plan thanks to Ottawa Senators player Nick Cousins.

Jacob Quillan's promotion from the Toronto Marlies to the Maple Leafs was fairly shocking considering the fact that he is a very new player in the system.

However, he has been playing good hockey in the AHL and head coach Craig Berube wanted to give the kid a reward.

Jacob Quillan injured by Nick Cousins

Unfortunately, in his NHL debut against the Ottawa Senators, Quillan was absolutely demolished by Nick Cousins thanks to a knee-on-knee hit.

Although Cousins got the worst of it, there is no doubt that the rookie was shaken up quite a bit as a result of the hit.

In fact, according to Nick Barden, Quillan did not skate today which is not a good sign for the Maple Leafs game against the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday.

For now, it remains unclear what the extent of his injury is and whether or not the Leafs will actually have to sit him for a few days.

With numerous Maple Leafs forwards looking to return to the lineup, it is very likely that Quillan is sent back down to the Minors anyway.

In 35 games with the Marlies this season, Quillan has six goals and nine assists. It isn't a lot but he is fitting his role quite well.

He continues to do the right things and that is going to get him far in the hockey world for years to come.

We hope Quillan is able to overcome his current injury and get back on the ice sooner rather than later.
