Toronto Marlies forward Alex Steeves was going for a franchise record tonight and he broke it in style, ensuring that the Toronto Maple Leafs give him another look.

Alex Steeves has been trying to make the Maple Leafs for years, however, he hasn't been able to break through.

While the forward has played in 11 NHL games so far, his opportunities have been spread across four seasons and they have few and far between.

However, Steeves' accomplishment tonight is something that should grab Craig Berube and Brad Treliving's attention.

Alex Steeves Breaks Toronto Marlies scoring record

Coming into tonight's Toronto Marlies game against the Laval Rocket, Steeves was looking to break the franchise record for goals.

The forward did it as he increased his total to 95, while notching his 26th of the entire season.

Overall, this is a very cool accomplishment and it comes at a good time for Steeves who is trying to get a new contract this summer.

Of course, with the Maple Leafs not playing him it will be interesting to see if they just let him walk.

It has become clear that Steeves could make an NHL roster, but whether or not that roster belongs to the Leafs, remains to be seen.

All the 25-year-old can do is put his head down and hope that the Leafs continue to recognize his hard work on and off of the ice.

Hopefully, the kids gets an opportunity before the game just passes him by completely. That would be an absolute shame.
