Brad Marchand could be on the trading block: Should the Maple Leafs swoop in?
Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand is currently manning a ship that is sinking, especially following the firing of Jim Montgomery.
The team started off the year on the wrong foot and since that time, the Bruins have not gotten any better.
As a result, head coach Jim Montgomery was ousted, despite having a sensational record with the franchise.
Now, Joe Sacco is the coach, however, there are numerous questions circulating about whether or not this Bruins team is even going to turn things around.
With Marchand in the final year of his deal with the Bruins, there is this sense that he may not return next year.
Consequently, there are now trade rumors involving Marchand, and Chris Johnston came through with the scoop.
Brad Marchand to the Maple Leafs?
What does that mean for the Maple Leafs?
Well, it means that general manager Brad Treliving should at least consider it.
Given the fact that Marchand would likely be a rental, it might not be worth mortgaging the future for a guy who isn't guaranteed to sign in free agency.
Moreover, the Leafs do have to think about signing guys like Mitch Marner and John Tavares.
No matter what, all of this does put the Maple Leafs in a very interesting situation and you have to wonder if maybe the team is thinking about it.
After all, Marchand has a ton of experience and would be a great addition to this team.
The big issue is that it might just cost too much to get him.
