Auston Matthews was out of the Toronto Maple Leafs lineup on Saturday night as he re-aggravated an upper-body injury while playing against the Buffalo Sabres the night before.
The Leafs did not play well in the captain's absence as they ended up falling by a score of 6-3 to the New York Islanders.
It was a frustrating game for the team and perhaps what was even more frustrating for head coach Craig Berube was the sheer amount of questions he had to field in regards to Matthews.
After the game, Berube was asked by reporters if he had any updates or comments on the captain's issue.
The head coach gave a blunt response, essentially making it clear that he doesn't know much and that everything will be up to the doctors.
The Maple Leafs will be getting a break soon, so that will certainly be a good time for Matthews to get some rest and come back stronger.
However, this does not make the situation any less concerning, and fans are certainly a bit confused as to whether or not their captain is going to be okay, going forward.
The lingering issue to Matthews was supposed to be taken care of by now, and the fact that it is still a problem is creating a slight breakdown in trust between fans and the organization.
Hopefully, this can all get sorted out and Matthews is able to come back better than ever before.
