Joseph Woll and Dennis Hildeby are the two goaltenders in the lineup tonight against the Boston Bruins and with the Philadelphia Flyers on tap for tomorrow night, there is no doubt that the Leafs head coach had a tough decision on his hands.
Woll played back-to-back games against the New York Islanders and was sensational in those tilts.
He secured a pair of wins and proved that he could play multiple games in a row without suffering any unforeseen injuries.
As a result of his play, Woll has been rewarded as Craig Berube named him as the starting goalie for tonight's critical matchup with a division rival.
Overall, this is a smart decision given the fact that the Boston Bruins are a much stronger team than the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Maple Leafs are currently leading the Atlantic Division, and in order to stay out in front, they have to win against division rivals like the Bruins.
Given his 2.39 goals-against average and .917 save percentage, it is clear that Joseph Woll was the better option when compared to Dennis Hildeby.
Having said that, Hildeby is set to start in his fourth-career NHL game on Sunday night, and it should be an interesting matchup.
If he can secure the win, then it will go a long way in taking some of the pressure off of Woll, who has had to carry a large workload as of late.
But first, the Leafs must take care of business against the Boston Bruins, with captain Auston Matthews returning to the lineup.
