The Toronto Maple Leafs made a truly last minute acquisition on Friday night with the Minnesota Wild for a forward who probably won't play very much.

Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving had a pretty decent day at the trade deadline picking up Brandon Carlo and Scott Laughton.

The team improved on defense where they were lacking in depth and they also managed to pick up a new third line center who will take some of the burden off of Max Domi.

However, Treliving was not done following the trade deadline as we just got word of a fairly last-minute trade that may not be very consequential in the grand scheme of things.

Toronto Maple Leafs trade for Reese Johnson

According to the Toronto Maple Leafs on X, the team has acquired a 26-year-old forward by the name of Reese Johnson.

Johnson used to play for the Chicago Blackhawks before going to the Minnesota Wild. He has mostly played in the AHL this season with the Iowa Wild and as you will read, he is not much of a point getter.

Johnson, 26, has posted 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in 49 games with the Iowa Wild (AHL) this season while also skating in three games with the Minnesota Wild. The 6'1», 193-pound forward has recorded 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists) in 144 career regular season NHL games split between Minnesota and Chicago while also collecting 36 points (13 goals, 23 assists) in 132 career regular season AHL games split between Iowa and Rockford.

The Leafs did not have to give up much to acquire this player. Going back the other way are some "future considerations" which isn't a lot.

Johnson probably won't play very much with the Maple Leafs although that was never really the goal.

With Nikita Grebenkin and Fraser Minten gone, the Maple Leafs needed some talent for the Toronto Marlies, and Johnson is able to provide that.

We wish him nothing but the best of luck with the organization moving forward.
