Mitch Marner got the overtime winner for Team Canada on Wednesday in the 4 Nations Face-Off opener and a lot of fans were surprised.
After all, the Toronto Maple Leafs star has never been known for being clutch, especially in situations where the games mean something.
However, in a best-on-best tournament with National pride on the line, Marner was able to come through with a huge performance.
According to former Maple Leafs player Carlo Colaiacovo, this could very well lead to a new chapter and new narrative for the superstar.
Mitch Marner has been seen as a playoff failure for years at this point, however, he can now use this 4 Nations Face-Off as a confidence booster for the rest of his career.
Although some may see this as an exaggeration, there is no denying that momentum is a thing that has affected a lot of different players in the NHL.
If Marner can somehow play more loose and continue to get big goals at the 4 Nations, then it can be argued he will be a whole lot better in the playoffs.
Not to mention, being mentored by guys like Sidney Crosby, Nathan MacKinnon, and Connor McDavid will do wonders for his confidence.
Only time will tell whether or not Marner can keep it going and give Leafs fans something to cheer about this Spring.
