Former Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman John Klingberg went through hip surgery last season and now, he wants to make an NHL comeback for the ages.

John Klingberg only got to suit up for 14 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs last season as he suffered a hip injury that required season-ending surgery.

Since then, the defenseman has been putting in the work and now, the 32-year-old is ready to make his return to the NHL.

Toronto Maple Leafs interested in John Klingberg

According to Darren Dreger, teams like the Ottawa Senators, the Edmonton Oilers, and even the Vancouver Canucks have shown interest.

However, the Maple Leafs are very much interested in a reunion as the team has been searching for some solid depth on the blue line.

John Klingberg is closing in on resuming his NHL career. Toronto, Ottawa and Edmonton among the teams with expressed interest. A decision expected in next 2 weeks. Klingberg had hip resurfacing surgery in 2023 and has worked hard to get to this point. 5-7 teams in the mix.

Klingberg is a solid offensive contributor as he has 412 points in 633 career NHL games.

However, his defensive acumen isn't exactly desirable when you consider how he has a career -40 net rating.

Either way, it will be interesting to see what general manager Brad Treliving does in the coming weeks.

If Klingberg can be acquired for a low price, then perhaps the Leafs will pull the trigger. That said, the team has other priorities right now, such as finding a new Center.

For now, the Leafs could probably do without Klingberg. The emergence of Philippe Myers has been massive and there are much better players the team could acquire right now.

Hopefully, Treliving makes the right moves for this team going into the postseason.
