Insider Reveals Toronto's "Plan B" if the Maple Leafs Can't Secure a Center at the Trade Deadline
Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving wants to get himself a center at the trade deadline but he seems to have a "plan B" just in case that doesn't pan out.
If you are a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, then you have probably seen all of the reports suggesting that the team is seeking a center for their bottom six at the trade deadline.
Of course, this is not going to be easy to accomplish as teams are going to be putting huge prices on their assets knowing that the Leafs are looking to be buyers.

That said, general manager Brad Treliving understands that the team is in need of other assets, such as defensemen who can add to their depth.
In fact, according to Chris Johnston, the Leafs may be looking at Calgary Flames d-man Rasmus Andersson, who has been involved in numerous trade talks.
"The Leafs want to get a defenseman this deadline as well... I think there's a world where all the stuff with centres falls through, maybe they use some of those more attractive assets they have to trade for a defenseman... Is there a world where Rasmus Andersson becomes available in Calgary?"
Andersson is a defenseman with tremendous upside and would certainly be a huge help to this team.
However, Johnston still believes the Leafs are mainly going after guys like Brayden Schenn and Scott Laughton. If those guys do not pan out, Johnston believes we may see Treliving shoot for the stars.
"If the Schenn thing doesn't come to pass for whatever reason. If Philadelphia holds strong and says it's got to be a first or equivalent for Laughton and the Leafs decide they just can't give that up, then you're getting into a rental type centre who's cheaper and you still have the first. Then you're Toronto and you're looking at the blueline... The Leafs are of the mind to take a big swing."
Whatever the case may be, the Maple Leafs will be a fascinating team to watch at the trade deadline given where they are in the standings right now.
This is a team that has a mandate to win a Stanley Cup which means they will be looking to be huge players at the trade deadline.
