Joseph Woll or Matt Murray? Maple Leafs take their pick against the Detroit Red Wings
Tonight, the Toronto Maple Leafs are taking on the Detroit Red Wings and will have to choose between goaltenders Joseph Woll and newly crowned, backup Matt Murray.
Joseph Woll is currently the starter for the Maple Leafs, and this has been the case ever since the injury to Anthony Stolarz.
As for Matt Murray, the team has recalled him on a couple of occasions now, with the goaltender scoring his first win since April of 2023, last Friday against the Buffalo Sabres.
Toronto Maple Leafs choose between Matt Murray and Joseph Woll
This weekend, the Toronto Maple Leafs play against the Detroit Red Wings on Friday night, and the Washington Capitals on Saturday.
Going into the weekend, some fans assumed that Murray would play against the weaker team, the Red Wings.
Meanwhile, Woll would get to start against the Washington Capitals who might be getting back Alexander Ovechkin.
Well, things are not as advertised, as Joseph Woll is going to be getting the start for the Maple Leafs tonight.
This means that it is very likely we get to see Murray in goal against the Washington Capitals.
It is going to be a much more difficult test than the Buffalo Sabres were, but perhaps that is a good thing.
Sometimes, you want to test your guys and see if they can stand up to scrutiny when called upon.
Either way, these next two games are must-win for the Maple Leafs if they want to stay in the race for the Atlantic Division lead.
