Anthony Stolarz had gotten injured just a few nights ago against the Anaheim Ducks and while many figured it was just something precautionary, it appears much more serious.
Stolarz had been placed on the injured reserve just a few days ago, and it was even said that he would be day-to-day.
However, the Maple Leafs have been known to downplay the severity of injuries to their players. Just look at Auston Matthews.
Unfortunately, something similar has happened here with Stolarz as Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving offered a truly horrible update this morning.
According to TSN, Treliving has confirmed that Stolarz will be out for another four to six weeks.
Why? You may ask. Well, it is because he needs to get a surgery done on his knee to remove what reportedly looks like a "pebble."
This is the absolute worst-case scenario for the Maple Leafs right now, and it is shocking that this is happening right now.
Ultimately, this means that the two goaltenders going forward are going to be Joseph Woll and Dennis Hildeby.
While Woll can most certainly hold down the fort, Hildeby is still a bit of a question mark as he had had some topsy-turvy outings with the franchise.
Hopefully, Stolarz's recovery goes well and he is able to return sooner rather than later.
