This afternoon was fairly impressive for general manager Brad Treliving as he was able to acquire some studs such as Brandon Carlo from the Boston Bruins and Scott Laughton from the Philadelphia Flyers.
Overall, the Laughton trade was one that a lot of fans were actually expecting. His name was in trade rumors for weeks and Treliving wanted to make him a Leaf.
As for Carlo, that trade came out of nowhere, with the Leafs giving up Fraser Minten and a 2026 first-round pick in return.
It was actually a pretty bad day for the Boston Bruins, who also parted ways with their captain, Brad Marchand.
With these big moves, Brad Treliving needed to find some cap relief, and that is where Connor Dewar and Conor Timmins came into the picture.
Both players were sent to the Pittsburgh Penguins as part of the Brandon Carlo deal.
In fact, this was purely a salary dump with the Penguins sending back some late-round draft picks to the Toronto Maple Leafs, according to Chris Johnston of TSN.
Timmins and Dewar were not particularly great players for the Maple Leafs. Timmins was frequently in and out of the lineup and the same could be said for Dewar.
With Laughton and Carlo on the roster, there is absolutely no doubt that Toronto has become a much better team.
Unfortunately, it is going to be hard to compete with the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning who have arguably gotten even better.
Only time will tell how all of this plays out for the franchise. Fans want a deep playoff run and it's going to be a difficult.
