Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews has had an upper-body injury since the start of the NHL season and for the most part, fans have been left in the dark.

Nick Kypreos gives an update on Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews

Throughout the season, the captain's injury has proven to be a huge mystery to a whole lot of folks out there.

No one really knows what Matthews is going through and whether or not it is something that needs operating or perhaps a long-term shutdown.

On Sportsnet last night, Nick Kypreos gave an update on the superstar forward that will certainly give fans a sigh of relief.

Essentially, Matthews is feeling better, and the injury contains no structural damage.

Unfortunately, this does not give any indication as to when Matthews will be returning to the lineup this season.

In 24 games played, the captain has scored 11 goals and 12 assists for a total of 23 points.

While this kind of production isn't necessarily bad by any stretch of the imagination, it still does not measure up to what fans are used to from Auston Matthews.

Moving forward, it will be fascinating to watch how all of this develops for the captain, and whether or not the team lets him compete and the 4 Nations Face-Off.

At the end of the day, the Maple Leafs are trying to win the Stanley Cup, and they must make the right moves in order for that to happen.
