Jake McCabe suffered an injury to his head, for the second time this season, when he got into a fight with Garnet Hathaway of the Philadelphia Flyers.
This forced him to miss a handful of games and during that span, the Maple Leafs have gone on a three-game losing streak.
This past week, McCabe has been back at practice and it has led to speculation regarding his return to the ice.
Yesterday, there was a sense that the defenseman would either be back for tonight's game against the New Jersey Devils, or he would return on Saturday against the Montreal Canadiens.
Much to the delight of fans, it has been revealed that McCabe will be in the lineup tonight.
McCabe has 11 points so far this season and for the post part, the Maple Leafs are a much better team with him in the lineup.
One could argue that with Morgan Rielly's struggles in mind, McCabe has been the best D-man on the Leafs so far this season.
Having him return to the lineup could give a lot more confidence to the team's players, especially goaltenders like Joseph Woll and Dennis Hildeby.
Not to mention, the New Jersey Devils are a very good team and the Leafs need all hands on deck if they want to snap this losing skid.
If the Leafs win tonight, they will be able to keep their lead in the Atlantic Division, which has withered away to just one point.
