Maple Leafs Must Act Now On Alex Steeves Amid Toronto Marlies Hot Streak
Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Alex Steeves has been on a heater for the Toronto Marlies and it seems pretty clear that he deserves another shot at NHL glory.
Alex Steeves has only played four games with the Toronto Maple Leafs this season, although his work in the AHL has been absolutely sensational.
Alex Steeves deserves more opportunities at the NHL level
With the Marlies this season, Steeves has played 30 games and has scored 22 goals and 15 assists for a total of 37 points.
Meanwhile, last night's loss against the Ottawa Senators proves that the Maple Leafs are lacking offense and their current call-ups simply aren't going to provide that.
Steeves is playing exceptional hockey, yet the team has chosen to call up guys like Nikita Grebenkin and Jacob Quillan instead.
Simply put, Steeves deserves another chance and the Maple Leafs should act now, especially ahead of the Four Nations Face-Off break.
If the team won't give Steeves a shot now, they probably won't ever give him a fair shake.
While his NHL stats are certainly underwhelming, he hasn't always been put in the proper places to succeed.
There is a path for him to be an effective player, but if the Leafs do not recognize that, then it would probably be best for them to just trade him to a team that would play him.
After all, the trade deadline is coming up which provides a great opportunity for the Leafs to unload some talent.
It will be interesting to see what happens next for Steeves but if one thing is for certain, it is that he has earned more opportunities.
