The Toronto Maple Leafs are dealing with numerous injuries and as a result, they have decided to come through with a new signing, William Nylander's brother, Alex Nylander.

During the summer, the Maple Leafs signed Nylander, although they signed him to their AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies.

Overall, he has been solid this season with 12 points in 14 games. Although he has yet to get a chance with the Leafs.

Well, Matthew Knies got injured on Wednesday night and that forced the Maple Leafs' hand in a very big way.

Today, it was revealed that Knies was being placed on the injured reserve. To counter this, Nylander was given a one-year deal with the Maple Leafs.

Alex Nylander is now with the Maple Leafs

"Nylander, 26, has posted 12 points (eight goals, four assists) in 14 games with the Toronto Marlies (AHL) this season. The 6'1, 205-pound forward has skated in 344 career regular season AHL games recording 222 points (102 goals, 120 assists) split between Toronto, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Rockford and Rochester while adding six points (three goals, three assists) in nine playoff games. The Calgary, AB native has collected 49 points (25 goals, 24 assists) in 121 career NHL games split between Columbus, Pittsburgh, Chicago and Buffalo and skated in eight playoff games."

It remains to be seen how much playing time Nylander will actually get with the Maple Leafs.

Of course, the team has injuries to multiple players right now including Auston Matthews, Max Domi, Max Pacioretty, David Kampf, and now, Knies.

This means we will likely see Nylander in the bottom three for at least a little while.

However, do not expect him to share a line with his brother William. Not sure Craig Berube would want to do that.

No matter what, this is a cool story and we wish Nylander the best of luck.
