Maple Leafs unveil their plans to celebrate Oliver Ekman-Larsson's 1000th game

This summer, the Toronto Maple Leafs signed Oliver Ekman-Larsson in a move that has certainly made a lot of fans happy.

Ekman-Larsson had just won a Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers when he got signed. He was the kind of experienced veteran that the team was in desperate need of.

He is easily one of the best defenseman on the team, and the franchise is definitely lucky to have him right now.

Last night, Ekman Larsson actually hit an incredible new milestone against the Washington Capitals. The defenseman played in his 1000th NHL game.

"It feels special. You always dream about playing that one game in the NHL, and I've had a chance to play 1,000 games, so it's special," Ekman-Larsson shared. "I'm very thankful for every single game."

Unfortunately, Ekman-Larsson did not get to do this at home, which means he did not receive any kind of honor. It is surely disappointing, but the team is making up for it.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson hits huge milestone with the Maple Leafs

According to the Hockey News, the Leafs will be holding a special ceremony on Saturday.

The team is playing against the Edmonton Oilers, and Ekman-Larsson will be getting the customary and always special silver hockey stick.

Getting to 1000-career NHL games is not easy. It means you have to remain healthy and you also have to be good enough to make it this far. Once you play over 12 seasons, you key on this reality.

We cannot wait to see what else Ekman-Larsson is going to do for the Maple Leafs this season.

A lot of fans are hoping to see him potentially help get the team a Stanley Cup title. If he does, he will have two cups in two seasons with two different teams.

No matter what, we congratulate Ekman-Larsson on his accomplishments.
