Toronto Maple Leafs winger Matthew Knies has been struggling on the ice as of late and in a recent interview, the team's head coach Craig Berube called the forward out.

In fact, https://www.nhl.com/mapleleafs/player/matthew-knies-8482720 and Craig Berube sat down for a conversation on Monday after practice, and it was here where Berube showed the winger some tape, demanding that he play with more reckless abandon.

A lot of this discourse has started because of Knies' lackluster play since returning from his head injury sustained from a hit by Las Vegas Golden Knights defenseman, Zach Whitecloud.

The Leafs winger has not been the same player and has only scored one goal in his last 13 games.

While speaking to the media, Knies addressed the criticisms from his head coach and noted that he just needs to be more physical and harder to play against.

My game has dipped. It's definitely not as physical as I want it to be It's not an easy thing to come back from. You have to find energy in different ways-little things that get you out of bed in the morning and excited to come to the rink.

Knies also considered the notion that he may just be emotionally out of it right now, which could certainly be a factor here.

I think I just need to mentally dial in on the little things I've been lacking. I just haven't been as tough to play against.

Today, the Toronto Maple Leafs are taking on the New York Islanders, and now is as good of a time as ever for Knies to get back to his usual self.

The Leafs need as much help as they can get right now, especially with the injury to Auston Matthews.

Hopefully, this is just a poor stretch for Matthew Knies, and he is able to be the contributor we know him to be as the Leafs approach the postseason.
