Oliver Ekman-Larsson reveals exactly why he chose the Toronto Maple Leafs
Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson is easily one of the most respected veterans on the team right now.
Overall, he has a Stanley Cup championship and has been a fantastic defenseman for many years.
During free agency, OEL decided to come to the Maple Leafs, and fans were ecstatic about this. He brings a wealth of knowledge to the table and of course, some consistency on the blue line.
He also recently played his 1000th game which is a whole lot of fun. It just so happened to correlate with a Leafs win.
Recently, OEL was on OverDrive on TSN 1050 where he was asked why he came to the Maple Leafs.
This led to a very cool answer, in which he noted how the franchise has a history of accepting Swedish players.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson weighs in
It's cool for a guy like me to come here and play for the same organization and live up to their standards that they built here. You think about that. They did an unbelievable job creating a culture here and you can still feel like it's here. You think about that and obviously, Willy and Holmberg and Jarnkrok. I think it's easier to come into a team with a lot of Swedes that you know and that helps, but bottom line is that you want to win again and I think it would be a very special play to do it in Toronto and I think we have the team to do that and I'm excited to be here.
It came down to doing something special and have that challenge for myself and the organization. I think it's a great thing."
Ekman-Larsson is a defenseman who certainly adds a lot to this team and the Leafs are lucky to have him around.
Only time will tell whether or not his addition leads to any new playoff success, something that the Leafs have practically been begging for over the years.
