The Toronto Maple Leafs are a team that is looking to add some pieces at the trade deadline and their rival, the the Montreal Canadiens, are a team to do business with.

General Manager Brad Treliving has a lot of work to do this week with the Toronto Maple Leafs and fans are very eager to see what kind of moves he ends up making.

Fans want to see the team be successful and they want the GM to go out and get a significant center or at least a defenseman to bolster the blue line.

Toronto Maple Leafs trade deadline plans

There have been various reports going around that the Maple Leafs have been looking towards their rival, the Montreal Canadiens, for some trade deadline inspiration.

In fact, the big catch right now seems to be Jake Evans, a center with 12 goals and 28 points this season.

In a new report from Pierre LeBrun of TSN and The Athletic, the Maple Leafs wouldn't just stop at Evans.

They would also be interested in acquiring both Evans and Joel Armia, who has also been a solid forward for the Habs over the last few seasons.

"The Habs remain open to trading Jake Evans, however they've also communicated to teams they're not trading him for the sake of trading him. Montreal has got lots of draft picks. If teams don't pay up, the Canadiens seem legitimately fine keeping Evans and see value in him helping the team the rest of the way.

The Winnipeg Jets, New Jersey Devils, Minnesota Wild, Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers are among the teams that I believe have checked in on Evans and/or fellow pending UFA forward Joel Armia.

And the Leafs have seemingly called on every center available on the market, so it's no surprise they would have checked in on Evans."

This is the kind of deal that would be like swinging for the fences, but if the Canadiens aren't looking to get back much in return, it might make sense.

The Canadiens are still in the midst of a rebuild and they would likely only want prospects and draft capital which is something the Leafs can give.

Ultimately, it is going to be interesting to see just how creative Treliving gets at the deadline. While he may not go for Evans and Armia in the end, they are certainly on the table if push comes to shove.
