TSN Analyst predicts the terms of John Tavares' next deal with the Maple Leafs
Toronto Maple Leafs star John Tavares is in the midst of deciding his future and the Leafs are clearly thinking about the same thing.
Tavares' contract runs out at the end of this year and the both sides need to figure out whether or not they will continue their relationship.
Of course, Tavares lost the captaincy to Auston Matthews and some thought this would lead to some hard feelings. However, that has not been the case.
In fact, according to TSN Analyst Mike Johnson, it appears clear that Tavares wants to return to Toronto.
What is very interesting, however, is the fact that Tavares isn't in a rush to get his contract figured out. Instead, he and the Leafs are waiting.
As Johnson explains, Tavares will likely re-sign for three years and his deal will actually be quite modest.

He will look to return to Toronto first and foremost, because he's so set in here, so I don't think there's a rush to get it done. I don't think the dollar value is going to fluctuate very much with a good or bad performance down the stretch so I think they can wait to the deadline, post deadline to next summer. But when the deal gets done I think he's going to get around probably three years between $5M and $6M."
This should come as music to the ears of Leafs fans everywhere.
While Tavares is very valuable, it is best to make sure that the youngest guys are the ones being paid right now.
Hopefully, the Leafs have a solid end to the season that convinces Tavares that he absolutely needs to return to Toronto.
It would be a shame for his time with the team to run out without a Stanley Cup victory.
