The 4 Nations Face-Off has been embroiled in controversy as Canadian fans boo the American National Anthem, but at least one NHL player seems to understand.

United States President Donald Trump has threatened Canada with annexation and seems hell-bent on punishing the country in any way possible.

Of course, Canadian hockey fans do not appreciate this, and they have made sure to let their feelings be known at the 4 Nations Face-Off.

4 Nations Face-Off National Anthem controversy

In Team USA's first game against Team Finland, the Star-Spangled Banner was met with a chorus of boos in Montreal.

This has led to a lot of discourse, and as you can imagine, American players do not like what they are hearing.

Cam Robinson texted an American player asking for his opinion on the anthem protests.

At first, the anonymous player thought it was incredibly cringey. However, when pressed about President Trump's comments, the player quickly realized that the Canadian fans have every right to be upset.

"Yeah, when you look it at from that side, I wouldn't like another country threatening to swallow up mine (country). Especially one as big as the U.S.. Would probably do more than boo an anthem..."

Tonight, Canada and the U.S will be playing each other in what could be a preview of the Championship game.

With that being said, the game is being played in Montreal and fans should expect the Canadian faithful to boo the Star-Spangled Banner.

Even if you think it is fair, Canadians are extremely prideful and they will not be intimidated by their Southern neighbor.
