The Montreal Canadiens and the Edmonton Oilers made some waves today by swapping Jacob Perreault and Noel Hoefenmayer, two perennial AHLers.

When it comes to success in the NHL right now, the Edmonton Oilers and the Montreal Canadiens are two teams on completely different trajectories.

On one hand, you have the Oilers who despite a slow start, are back on track and could very well go back to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Meanwhile, the Canadiens continue to stink, and fans are wondering when their young stars will finally take a leap forward.

Today, both teams decided to orchestrate a deal with one another, albeit a deal that really doesn't make much of a difference for either franchise.

Canadiens and Oilers do business

The Canadiens are getting Noel Hoefenmayer while the Oilers are getting Jacob Perreault.

Below you can read what the Habs had to say about the trade, on their website.

Hoefenmayer, 25, has registered seven points (1G, 6A) in 11 games with the Bakersfield Condors in the AHL this season. The 6-foot-1, 191-pound left-handed defenseman has appeared in 149 regular season games over five AHL seasons with the Toronto Marlies and the Condors, tallying 21 goals and 51 assists.

This trade pails in comparison to the move we saw from the New York Rangers and the Anaheim Ducks.

Of course, in this deal, Jacob Trouba was sent to the Anaheim Ducks. By every metric, it was a bigger trade.

Only time will tell whether or not any of the moves made today will be of large consequence to these teams.
