Whenever your captain is out with an injury, it is going to be a big deal. It is never easy to work through this sort of thing. However, there is no doubt that the Leafs would much rather have Matthews in the lineup then not. Either way, he seems to be making progress.
At practice today, Craig Berube, the Maple Leafs head coach, admitted that Matthews has not actually played any hockey since Sunday. However, he is starting to ramp up a bit, which is great news for the team right now.
In the first game after his injury was announced, the Maple Leafs were able to win the game by a score of 4-0. On Friday night, the Leafs are now going to play the Detroit Red Wings where they will be fielding the exact same lineup.
Subsequently, on Saturday night, they get to play against the Montreal Canadiens. Needless to say, there is a lot of good stuff coming for the team right now. Hopefully, they get on a win streak as they take on some truly beatable opponents.
