Toronto Maple Leafs forwards Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner just made history against the Pittsburgh Penguins and for entirely different reasons.

Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner are two of the best players in the history of the Toronto Maple Leafs and they are constantly proving this to be true.

In fact, in just a few short years, they have already been able to enter the franchise's history books which contains some of the game's greatest players.

Over the last few weeks, Matthews has been chasing down Darryl Sittler for second all time on the Maple Leafs all-time goal list.

Well, today, the captain was able to take sole possession of second place with a goal in the second period.

With his goal at 4:08 of the second period, Auston Matthews (390) has moved past Darryl Sittler (389) for second most in franchise history behind Mats Sundin (420).

Meanwhile, Mitch Marner got an assist on the play, and it catapulted him past George Armstrong for fifth on the team's all-time points list. He now has 714.

With an assist on Auston Matthews' goal at 4:08 of the second period, Mitch Marner (714) has moved past George Armstrong (713) for sole possession of fifth on the Maple Leafs' all time point register.

This is all taking place in a wild game between the Leafs and the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Maple Leafs just won thanks to a goal from William Nylander.

Matthews and Marner have not done much aside from these points, although we did see Matthew Knies completely embarrass the Penguins with a last-second goal.

Either way, it is cool to see these Leafs superstars continue to break records and make history. We just hope that they stay with the team for years to come.
