The fan who had made two signs for the game, one for Mitch Marner featuring his dog and another for Nick Robertson with the Philippine flag and a photo of the two from the previous season had come prepared to show their support.
Although Nick Robertson was a healthy scratch for the game and didn't participate in warmups, he noticed the sign and made a special trip down to meet the fan during the game.
The 23-year-old forward, who has had a challenging start to the season, posed for a new photo with the fan by continuing a tradition from the year before.
The Maple Leafs later shared this new photo and edited it onto the fan's original sign, creating a memorable experience for both the fan and the player.
In his early years, Robertson's NHL career has been hihglighted by injuries and resulting in only 31 games played across three seasons with the Leafs.
Last season, he scored 14 goals and 13 assists in 56 games but struggled in the playoffs by failing to register a point in six games against the Boston Bruins.
In the offseason, Robertson requested a trade as a restricted free agent but ultimately signed a one-year deal with Toronto.
This season, he has mostly played in the Maple Leafs' bottom six and averaged 12:15 ice time under new head coach Craig Berube.
Drafted 53rd overall by the Leafs in the 2019 NHL Draft, Nick Robertson showed good upside in junior hockey with the Peterborough Petes by scoring 55 goals in 46 games during the 2019-20 season.
Now, he looks to establish himself as a consistent contributor for Toronto.
