Last night, the Toronto Maple Leafs had one of their worst efforts of the entire season as they fell to a Pittsburgh Penguins team that has been inconsistent all season long.
This was the first time the Maple Leafs had lost back-to-back games since late October, which demonstrates the potency of this Maple Leafs run.
As for the results from last night, the Maple Leafs were solid when it came to their top line. This is always the case.
Mitch Marner had a goal and an assist while Auston Matthews had a couple of assists. We even saw William Nylander get a goal to boot.
However, as always, the biggest issue with the Leafs was their horrific bottom six that has struggled to produce anything of note, all season long.
Players like Connor Dewar, Pontus Holmberg, Alex Nylander, and Ryan Reaves have not been productive and it is starting to become a real problem.
After the game, Craig Berube spoke to the media about the team's issues and what they need from the bottom six going forward.
Overall, a trade might be necessary moving forward. There have been rumblings that general manager Brad Treliving wants to make updates to his bottom six.
However, trades are hard to come by and teams will play hardball with the Leafs, knowing their situation.
With last night's loss, the Leafs now have a record of 16-9-2 which is still pretty solid as they had won 10 of their last 12 prior to this losing streak.
