Craig Berube just gave a huge seal of approval to an underappreciated defenseman
Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube is still in the midst of getting his team to where it needs to be if they want to make a playoff run.
Overall, Berube is a coach who has been able to win a Stanley Cup. This essentially means that he knows what it takes as far as personnel and playing style.
The Leafs have quite a bit of depth, even if the fans believe there are some gaps. One area where the team is missing some talent, is on defense. There are many who think the Leafs need more than what they already have.
However, Berube seems to disagree with that. He recently gave a massive co-sign to the likes of Connor Timmins.
Moreover, he recently offered some sincere words of confidence for Simon Benoit.

Having defenseman who can fill out the roster and put up solid results is extremely important.
Although Benoit might not be a long-term player in Toronto, he at least has the trust of his head coach.
Through 16 games this season, Benoit currently has a total of two points and a plus-three rating.
These statistics may not be anything to write home about, but they are most certainly enough.
Meanwhile, the offense is coming together, as is the power play. The Leafs are on a three-game winning streak, and there is a lot to be happy about.
