Don Cherry issues a message to fans five years after his firing
Don Cherry is one of the most polarizing people in the history of hockey media and that was especially true as a member of Coach's corner.
Five years ago, Cherry was fired after some comments he made about people who do not wear Poppy's for Remembrance Day.
His comments were very much pointed towards immigrants. The way in which he made his comments was construed as racist, which led to his release from CBC and Sportsnet.
Recently, the Toronto Sun met up with Cherry as this weekend marks the fifth anniversary of his firing. It was here where they asked him about Poppy's and what his thoughts are on the state of the world.
Don Cherry speaks out
Overall, it seems like Cherry is definitely regretful of how things ended. He wants to have a good time with his old friends. Having said that, he seems to have come to accept it all.
Cherry has his own podcast, but you won't be seeing him on TV anytime soon. That ship has most definitely sailed. However, Cherry will always be influential when it comes to the world of hockey television.
