Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube made a very interesting decision on Friday after his team lost badly to a strong Carolina Hurricanes team on Thursday.

Thursday night was not kind to the Maple Leafs who laid an absolute egg in the second half of the game as they fell to the Carolina Hurricanes by a score of 6-3.

Perhaps the worst players in the game were Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner.

Although Matthews had a goal, he and Marner were both at a -6 rating for the evening, which is absolutely putrid.

Head coach Craig Berube understands that this was not a good performance, however, he is not greeting the team with tough love.

Instead, he actually gave the team a day off on Friday as the team prepares to take on the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night for Hockey Night in Canada.

Despite last night's loss, the Toronto Maple Leafs remain out front in the Atlantic Division race, which is certainly good news.

However, games like last night's need to be expelled from the team's repertoire going forward.

All too often, the Leafs have played poorly against the best teams in the league, which does not bode well for the playoffs.

Now is as good of a time as ever to tighten up and make sure they can win against the best of the best.

The only way the Leafs will ever win a Stanley Cup is if they can learn to win against the Carolinas, Floridas, and Winnipegs of the world.
