Alex Nylander was signed to a one-year deal just a couple of weeks ago following the news that numerous Toronto Maple Leafs forwards were going to be out with injuries.
Overall, the signing seemed like a no-brainer as Alex is the brother of William Nylander and had been playing with the Marlies organization.
Since that time, Nylander has played four games with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and he has yet to record a single point. Obviously, not ideal when this team needs offense.
Alex Nylander has played a bit with his brother although he mostly spends his time on the third line, where his lack of speed has become especially apparent.
At this point, some fans believe that Nylander might not be on this team for much longer, and Craig Berube's recent comments seem to affirm that notion.
According to a report from the Hockey News, Berube said that the play from Nylander was "just ok."
If I were Nylander, I would be pretty scared about my place on the roster when my coach is talking in that kind of manner.
Despite Nylander's lack of production, the Maple Leafs as a whole have been pretty damn good this season.
With last night's 3-2 win against the Nashville Predators, the Maple Leafs have now won 10 of their last 12 and boast a record of 16-7-2.
They are leading the pack in the Atlantic Division and it looks like this team might be finally ready for a deep playoff run.
