Having said that, Cowan has been getting it pretty bad on social media ever since, with many Twitter users going after the young man.
For instance, one person even dared to compare his shootout attempt to something that they would do in the NHL video game.
While this is actually a funny joke, there were plenty of other comments that were a lot less funny.
In fact, some of the things said about Easton Cowan were downright mean and hurtful, and one has to wonder if the kid is currently looking at what is being said on social media.
As you can see down below, the vitriol against Cowan is serious, and there are a few reasons for why this may be the case.
Chief among them is the fact that Cowan was drafted by and has played for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
There is already a predisposition among hockey fans to hate anything that is related to the Leafs.
Having said that, it should come as no surprise that Cowan is getting this kind of abuse online.
Moreover, Canadian hockey fans have a lot of pride, and sometimes, that pride spills over and becomes just a bit too toxic.
That is what we are seeing here, and we cannot help but feel bad for the kid.
Hopefully, he can avenge himself and come home with a gold medal.
