Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jani Hakanpaa has been out of the team's lineup due to an injury that has mostly kept him on the long-term injury reserve.

Recently, he went on a conditioning stint with the Toronto Marlies. However, he has yet to return to the Leafs. Instead, he will stay with the Marlies for a bit.

In the meantime, the Maple Leafs are trying to find a way to bring Hakanpaa back to the roster. As it stands, they would need to release a player in order to bring him up.

Of course, the Leafs do not want to do that. Thankfully, there is a solution.

According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Leafs could force Philippe Myers to go on a conditioning stint. Myers has not played and it would allow Hakanpaa to be swapped into his place.

Elliotte Friedman on Jani Hakanpaa

"Toronto's got its roster crunch, not news, but that will force decisions. One possibility: Philippe Myers accepts a conditioning stint because he hasn't played, which at least makes roster room for Jani Hakanpaa."

Of course, there is no guarantee that the Leafs would actually do this. Instead, this is simply a suggestion of what they could end up doing.

Hopefully, Hakanpaa will be able to return and do what he does best. The fact that he is even coming back from this injury is a feat in and of itself.
