Morgan Rielly quickly became the whipping boy of Toronto media and Maple Leafs fans as he had a pretty awful start to the NHL season.
His offensive numbers weren't where they normally are, and even his +/- was fairly atrocious given how he has played in the past.
For some, Rielly's play was a clear indication that he was either having a mental block or he was simply dealing with some kind of injury. Another theory was that head coach Craig Berube's system was beyond his abilities.
Other said the defenseman was simply falling off due to age. However, his last seven games are proof that this is not the case.
In fact, last night, Morgan Rielly had a goal and three assists against the Boston Bruins, giving him his first four-point night in ages.
But why the sudden turnaround? Well, it could have everything to do with the talk Craig Berube had with Rielly during their Alberta road trip a few weeks ago.
Since that time, Rielly has managed eight points in seven games which is extremely impressive for a guy that fans were writing off just about a month ago.
Fans also know that the defenseman is a gamer who typically elevates his play in the postseason, and now that the postseason is near, he is stepping on the gas.
Only time will tell whether or not Rielly is able to keep this going and whether or not the Leafs can break their bad playoff habits of yesteryear.
